In the Bourbonnais region, at Le Theil, the château de Fontariol is a small 15th century manor built on the side of a hill, altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. Its rectangular main building is flanked by a round stair tower to the south and a circular tower at the northeast corner, surrounded by farm buildings arranged around an enclosed courtyard. The south and east facades still show arrow slits and two stone mullioned windows, marks of a fortified rural dwelling. An exhibition room now occupies the interior of the main house.
