Château de Bourbon-l'Archambault stands in Bourbon-l'Archambault (Allier), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century, 13th century, 14th century, 15th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Perched on a rocky spur that once controlled the Burge valley, the ruins of the château de Bourbon-l'Archambault bear witness to seven centuries of successive building campaigns, from the 12th to the 15th century. Cradle of the lords of Bourbon and later of dukes of royal blood, the fortress now retains only four massive round towers from the late 13th century and the remains of the chevet of the Sainte Chapelle built by Jean II. Visitors come for the towers that still dominate the town, and for the story of a stronghold that gave its name to an entire province.
