The château de Billy stands in ruins atop a limestone hill in the Allier department, some fifteen kilometres from Vichy. Built around the turn of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, this stronghold belonged to the powerful lords of Bourbon before falling into slow decline following the 1576 siege. Visitors today find protected medieval ruins bearing traces of later Renaissance alterations.
