What this covers

These terms govern the use of chateaupedia.com, published by Nanogramme LLC. They apply to three distinct things: browsing the site, claiming a château entry, and paid subscriptions once they open.

Browsing is free and open. It requires neither an account nor registration.

Removing an entry

An owner or manager may request the removal of their château's entry at any time, with no justification required. Write to contact@chateaupedia.com from an address that establishes the link with the château, or use the report form on the entry itself.

Removal is carried out within five working days. It applies to all three languages, to the API, and to the open dataset, whose next release will no longer contain the entry.

Whether the entry has been claimed changes nothing. Claiming grants extra means — correcting it yourself, displaying a badge — it commits you to nothing and removes no right.

We keep the Mérimée reference and the château's name in a removal list, for the sole purpose of not republishing the entry at the next ingestion. No other data is retained.

Accuracy of information

We publish practical information read from châteaux' official websites, from the French Ministry of Culture's Mérimée database, from Wikidata, OpenStreetMap and Google business listings. Every field carries its source and the date we checked it.

We do not guarantee that this information is accurate at the moment you read it. A château may close without notice, change its prices, or alter its hours the same day. The verification date shown on every entry exists precisely so that you can judge.

Before travelling, check with the château. We show its official website and phone number where we know them.

Claiming an entry

Claiming is free and without commitment. It requires proving the link with the château: an email address on the official website's domain grants immediate access; any other address goes through human verification.

A claim obtained through false statements is voided as soon as we learn of it, and access is withdrawn without notice.

The manager of a claimed entry is responsible for the information they publish on it, and warrants that they are entitled to do so.

Paid subscriptions

No subscription is on sale today. The paragraphs below will apply when they open.

Subscriptions will be monthly, with no minimum term, cancellable at any time with effect at the end of the current period. No charge is made after cancellation.

Under European consumer law, a business customer has no fourteen-day right of withdrawal; it does apply to anyone acting for non-professional purposes. We make no distinction in practice: a refund requested within fourteen days is granted.

Prices are exclusive of tax. VAT is that of the customer's country.

Reusing our data

The factual data published on this site is released under the ODbL 1.0 open licence: you may reuse, adapt and redistribute it, provided you credit the source and share any improvements under the same licence.

Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons and remain under their author's licence, stated on each image. Editorial texts, the visual identity and the code remain the publisher's property.

The API is available on request of a key. Use is limited to 5,000 calls per day per key, and we reserve the right to revoke a key that degrades the service for others.

Liability

We provide the site as it is. We guarantee neither continuous availability nor the absence of errors.

We cannot be held liable for a journey made on the strength of outdated information, nor for the consequences of a booking made with a third party from a link on this site.

Nothing in this section excludes liabilities that the law does not permit to be excluded, in particular for gross negligence or personal injury.

Partner links

Some booking links pay us a commission. They are marked as such in the page's code, as the applicable rules require. That commission never changes the price you pay.

A château's presence on the site, its position in a list and its verification level depend on no commercial consideration. A château that earns us nothing is treated exactly like any other.

Governing law and changes

The site addresses a European audience and processes data of European Union residents. The General Data Protection Regulation and European consumer law apply, regardless of where the publisher is established.

These terms may change. The date of the last update appears at the foot of this page. A substantial change affecting a running subscription is notified by email at least thirty days before it takes effect.
