To make a day of it

Château de La Palice stands in Saint-Prix (Allier), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Standing on a hilltop above the Besbre valley, this castle at Lapalisse traces its origins to a 12th century stronghold, later reshaped over the centuries under the Chabannes family. Its very name recalls the site's defensive role, that of a wooden stockade guarding the valley crossing. Fully listed as a historic monument, the building bears the traces of several noble families who held it from the 13th century onward.
