Cette porche fortifiée est un vestige du palais des comtes d'Auvergne, reconstruit par Jean Stuart, duc d'Albanie, au début du 15e siècle. La porte est franchie de plein pied. La voûte du passage est en arc bombé. Des échancrures ont été aménagées pour le passage de la herse. Au-dessus de l'arc de la voûte se trouve une fenêtre haute et étroite à encadrement en pierre dont l'appuie forme saillie. Le linteau et les montants sont moulurés et s'appuient sur de petites bases prismatiques. Le second étage est en légère saillie sur un arc brisé tracé au-dessus de la fenêtre. Il comporte une grande fenêtre rectangulaire à appui saillant et mouluré, avec croisée de meneaux à moulures prismatiques. Cette porte est contre-butée de chaque côté par un contrefort supportant à hauteur de la fenêtre du deuxième étage une tourelle d'angle en encorbellement sur cul-de-lampe.
