What the French Ministry of Culture records

Construit vers 1550 pour le duc d'Albany, ce château présente une architecture d'un type assez inhabituel en Auvergne : plan massé rappelant le Moyen Age ; utilisation assez rare de chaînages de briques ; position centrale et majesté de l'escalier. Il a cependant adopté les grands caractères de symétrie et de régularité de l'architecture classique. Les toitures viennent d'être restaurées dans leur état du 19e siècle.
