What the French Ministry of Culture records
Le château a été habité par le marquis de Villemont, mestre de camp, qui y entretenait un détachement de cavalerie, expliquant le rapport singulier entre le château et ses communs, exemple de l'organisation militaire du 18e siècle. L'édifice présente des caractéristiques de l'architecture auvergnate : portail d'entrée avec clocheton, murs sommés de balustres carrées, longues écuries basses couvertes de toits à la Mansart. Il ne subsiste aujourd'hui de ce château qu'une ruine, suite à un incendie en 1958. Le château se compose d'un bâtiment construit au début du 16e siècle encadré de deux tours. Remaniements au 18e siècle, avec ajout à cette époque de deux ailes à l'arrière. A l'intérieur, restes de décor peint du 16e siècle, décors stuqués, cheminées.
