Château d'Effiat stands in Effiat (Puy-de-Dôme), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 17th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Set in the Limagne plain, this 17th-century château still bears the trace of an oversized ambition: Antoine Coëffier de Ruzé, a marshal of France and close ally of Richelieu, once envisioned a planned new town here, laid out by his master's own architects. Only the château and its grounds remain, yet that original ambition still shows in the classical façades, the Doric pilasters and the monumental gateway crossing the moat. The garden, designed by André Mollet with its terrace and grotto, completes an estate that has stayed off the main tourist routes.
