Château de Montpensier stands in Montpensier (Puy-de-Dôme), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. No visits are on record for this building.
Perched on a hilltop above the Limagne plain, the château de Montpensier survives only as a ruined site, once the seat of a county and later a duchy. King Louis VIII died here in 1226 on his way back from the crusade against the Cathars, and the stronghold was torn down on Richelieu's orders in 1633. Visitors come mainly for the wide view stretching south and east rather than for the scant remains.
