The Château des Quayres, in Laps in the Puy-de-Dôme, is notable less for its buildings than for its 18th century park, laid out in successive terraces that follow the slope of the land. Five levels descend one after another, each centred on a pool, linked by grassy banks, steps and access ramps. The three lower terraces, planted with vines, are held by retaining walls and fed by a water system that supplies the pools and drives fountains.
