In Naves, in the Allier department, the ruins of a medieval stronghold stand on the slope of the small valley leading to the village pass. Built around 1100, the castle belonged to the archbishops of Bourges, who used it as a fortified residence until at least the late 15th century. Jean Cœur, son of Jacques Cœur and himself archbishop of Bourges, had work carried out there, still visible through carved coats of arms on the façade and on fireplaces. Only one wing has been restored and made habitable, the rest remaining in ruins.
