To make a day of it

Schloss Osterstein stands in Zwickau (Landkreis Zwickau), in Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Osterstein rises over the northeastern edge of Zwickau's old town, close to the Zwickauer Mulde river. Originally built as a margravial stronghold, it was rebuilt into a grand Renaissance residence at the end of the 16th century, then served for nearly two centuries as a prison, holding notable inmates such as Karl May, August Bebel and Rosa Luxemburg. Restored in the early 2000s after decades of decay, the building now functions as a nursing home, and its great vaulted hall, the Große Hofstube, ranks among the best-preserved of its kind in Saxony.
