The Tournelay estate, in Nueil-sur-Argent, centres on a château built between 1839 and 1859 on grounds where an earlier manor house was recorded as far back as 1278. What sets the place apart is not the château alone but the whole working estate around it: stables, orangery, henhouse, drying shed, kennel, woodshed, windmill and kitchen garden, arranged past a gatehouse. The main building, of brick and tuffeau stone on a granite base, faces a French formal garden on one side and an English-style landscaped garden on the other.
