To make a day of it

Château de l'Ébaupinay stands in Argentonnay (Deux-Sèvres), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: Middle Ages). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

In Argentonnay, in the Deux-Sèvres département, the ruins of the Château de l'Ébaupinay still raise their five Gothic towers around a square main building, surrounded by water-filled moats. Built at the end of the Middle Ages by the lord of Vendel, the structure lost its roof timbers and floors over time, likely stripped for building materials rather than destroyed by fire, despite a local legend claiming otherwise. Visitors can still see a machicolated wall-walk, gable-topped dormer windows, and a courtyard lined with small guard towers.
