What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le logis apparaît dans des textes datés de 1398. En 1576, François Ier Champlay reçoit d'Henri III le droit de fortifier la maison, pillée et incendiée pendant les guerres de Religion (1575-1576). La maison noble comptait alors de nombreuses tours d'enceinte, des boutiques et abritait les Réformés. Restauré au 16e siècle, l'édifice se présente sous la forme d'un donjon carré, cantonné d'une tour ronde et d'une tour carrée, arasées. Des canonnières côtoient des baies à traverses et meneaux. Au devant du donjon 15e siècle, une loggia fermée par un muret en moëllons terminé par une assise de dalles en granit mouluré, est ajourée de piles de section carrée et de colonnes doriques. A droite, cette loggia est fermée par un ancien oratoire en pierre de taille. L'intérieur conserve des cheminées des 15e et 16e siècles.
