To make a day of it

Château de Bridoire stands in Ribagnac (Dordogne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century, 16th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched on a rocky spur above the confluence of the Gardonnette and Grimoudou streams, Bridoire castle reflects eight centuries of history in the Dordogne, from a feudal stronghold to the Wars of Religion. Its architecture combines a gatehouse, round towers with machicolations and two wings meeting at a right angle, the result of successive rebuildings after the destructions of 1568 and 1649. The Foucauld family owned it until 1939, and Charles de Foucauld himself stayed there twice in the early twentieth century. The grounds also include a well with an iron superstructure and a timber-framed dovecote resting on nine stone pillars.
