Perched on a rocky spur above the Caudeau river in the Périgord pourpre area, Montastruc castle bears the marks of a turbulent history going back to the 13th century. Torn down in 1438 by order of King Charles VII and rebuilt at the end of the 15th century, it gained a second wing in the 18th century, whose interior decoration survives today. Built above older troglodytic dwellings, the site combines medieval remains, farm outbuildings and later additions.
