Perched on a rocky spur above the village of Turenne, in the Corrèze department, this castle was the seat of a viscounty that long remained largely independent of the French crown, until Louis XV bought it back in 1738. Of the once-extensive stronghold only two towers linked by a stretch of masonry now stand: the round Tour de César and the Tour de l'Horloge, also called the Tour du Trésor. The climb up to the site rewards visitors with wide views over the surrounding causse and the rooftops of the listed village below.
