To make a day of it

Château de Gavaudun stands in Gavaudun (Lot-et-Garonne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 13th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Set on a rocky spur above the Lède valley, the château of Gavaudun still raises its tall medieval keep facing the Périgord region. What remains standing, between fragments of curtain walls and the six-storey tower, reflects centuries of feudal history, sieges and noble families who held this strategic passage between the Agenais and Périgord. Entry is through a cave, now located behind the village town hall.
