In Carennac, the château des Doyens stands on the site of the former Benedictine priory, built against the north side of the church. Mostly constructed in the Renaissance period on 12th century ramparts, it retains a fortified gate, a corner tower and a spiral staircase leading to the so called Télémaque tower, named after Fénelon. The great hall contains a painted ceiling commissioned by the Bishop of Sarlat, who served as dean here in the 17th century.
