To make a day of it

The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 16th century). Adult admission costs 8 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The château de Javarzay stands in Chef-Boutonne, in the Deux-Sèvres, built of tuffeau stone in the 16th century with the look of a small Loire valley castle. Rebuilt from 1514 onward on the remains of a medieval stronghold, it still has its turreted gatehouse, a corner tower with machicolations and a Renaissance chapel. Inside, the visit combines the building's architecture with a museum devoted to regional headdresses and an exhibition on the industrialist Jean-François Cail, born locally.
