To make a day of it

Château de Melzéard stands in Paizay-le-Tort (Deux-Sèvres), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Château de Melzéard, in Paizay-le-Tort in the Deux-Sèvres, retains a southern front where several centuries of alterations remain visible: a 15th-century keep, a tower converted into a chapel, and a dovecote built before the late 17th century. The estate underwent a complete rebuilding in 1885 under architect Ojam, before a fire in 1993 devastated it and led to its sale in separate lots. What remains today speaks mainly to the defensive and religious architecture of the late Middle Ages.
