The château de Vezins, in the Mauges area of Maine-et-Loire, stands on a site held by a single family for eight centuries, from the early 12th century until 1929. Of the medieval red stone fortress, torn down on the orders of Louis XIII and later disrupted during the Revolution, only the moat remains, along with a bridge and an ice house, now part of the foundations of the present building erected from 1708 onward. Inside, large rooms with wide windows open onto a landscaped park laid out in the 19th century by André Leroy, planted with American species such as sequoias.
