Château Haussmann stands in Cestas, in the Gironde department, on the site of a family estate rebuilt in the third quarter of the 19th century. Baron Haussmann, after stepping away from his work in Paris, entrusted the design to architect Victor Baltard, known for the Paris market halls, while Henri Duphot oversaw construction. It was here that he wrote his memoirs from 1882 onward. The interior still holds 19th-century decoration, including stained glass, stucco work, wood panelling and painted overdoors.
