To make a day of it
Domaine de Certes stands in Audenge (Gironde), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: second quarter of the 19th century, fourth quarter of the 19th century, second quarter of the 20th century). Admission is free. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Certes estate at Audenge occupies a former salt-marsh and fish-farming property turned nature reserve on the edge of the Arcachon basin. The château overlooking the grounds was rebuilt around 1840 by Ernest Valeton de Boissière, with colonnades and an interior refitted in the 1930s. A fire badly damaged the building in 2010 and it remains closed to visitors, though the park, the water basins and the old stud farm buildings can be explored freely along an extensive network of coastal paths.
