To make a day of it

Schloss Weesenstein stands in Müglitztal (Landkreis Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge), in Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Adult admission costs 8 EUR. Its opening hours and prices were verified at the source on September 30, 2026.

Schloss Weesenstein stands on a rocky outcrop above the Müglitz valley in Müglitztal, Saxony. What sets it apart is its layered, descending structure: its storeys step down from the medieval round tower toward the valley floor, across eight levels in total. Home in turn to the burgraves of Dohna, the von Bünau family and the Saxon royal house, the castle preserves original furniture and wallpaper, a Baroque chapel and a Classical winter garden. During the Second World War, part of Dresden's print and drawing collections was sheltered here.
