What the French Ministry of Culture records

Château construit au 16e siècle par la famille Pontier qui avait quitté Aix-en-Provence à cause des guerres de Religion. Le château fut construit sur l'emplacement de l'oustal Besse du Peyrat, dont la dernière fille épousa un Pontier. Façades sur cour, escalier intérieur, cheminée monumentale sont du 16e siècle. Des lambris ont été ajoutés au 17e siècle. Le bâtiment est constitué par un corps de logis rectangulaire flanqué, du côté de la Vézère, de deux tourelles circulaires d'angle. Un bâtiment rectangulaire en hors-oeuvre abrite l'escalier à double volée. La tour sud a une voûte en coupole faite de moëllons.
