Château du Birkenfels stands in Ottrott (Bas-Rhin), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 13th century, 15th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Set deep in the Obernai forest, the ruins of Birkenfels castle overlook the former route of a Roman road linking Mont Sainte-Odile to the Bruche valley. Built around 1260 by a ministerial serving the bishop of Strasbourg, the castle had no real military purpose and seems to have been raised mainly to display the rank of a family seeking noble status. Visitors can still see the remains of an unfinished pentagonal keep, along with a small dungeon reached through a trapdoor at its base.
