To make a day of it

Château du Kagenfels stands in Ottrott (Bas-Rhin), in the Grand Est region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Deep in the forest shared by Obernai and Bernardswiller, on the commune of Ottrott, the ruins of Kagenfels castle occupy a wooded site in the Bas-Rhin region. Built in the 13th century by an episcopal ministerial lord, the stronghold withstood four sieges between the late 14th and early 15th centuries before being abandoned. Archaeologists have uncovered cannonballs and an altar stone there, evidence of its defensive past. The remains have been consolidated since the early 2000s by a local heritage association.
