To make a day of it

Château du Spesbourg stands in Andlau (Bas-Rhin), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 13th century, 14th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched at an altitude of 460 metres on a ridge above the Andlau valley, Spesbourg Castle consists of the ruins of a fortress built in the 13th century, probably by Alexander de Dicka. The site retains a keep linked to a massive shield wall, along with remains of the seigneurial residence, built of granite with sandstone window frames. The lower courtyard and its barbican entrance system remain visible at the foot of the upper castle, though in a more fragmentary state.
