What the French Ministry of Culture records

Vestige d'un fief suburbain connu depuis le 11e siècle, la tour paraît avoir été élevée au 15e siècle. De plan carré, elle sert principalement à abriter un escalier à vis éclairé par six niveaux de petites baies à encadrement mouluré en Volvic. Le logis rectangulaire attenant, à deux étages, comporte des percements irréguliers pouvant remonter au 17e ou 18e siècle et présente des traces d'arrachement attestant de la démolition de corps de bâtiments adjacents. Un muolin meunier à roues se trouvait à cet endroit. A partir de 1874, les bâtiments furent le siège d'un relais météorologique. Le dernier niveau de la tour fut surélevé et aménagé en terrasse afin d'accueillir certains instruments de mesure, tandis que le logis servait de bureau télégraphique, de laboratoire photographique et de bibliothèque. Cette station servit jusqu'en 1911.
