To make a day of it

Château de Pestillac stands in Montcabrier (Lot), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Perched on a plateau above the Thèze valley, facing the bastide town of Montcabrier, the ruins of the Pestillac castrum recall what was once one of the great lordships of medieval Quercy. The site preserves the remains of a fortified castle, tower houses believed to have belonged to knights, and two adjoining chapels. Its history spans the Albigensian Crusade and the Hundred Years' War, marked by conflicts between local lords and royal authority, until its destruction in the 14th century.
