Le château s'inscrit dans une lignée de constructions défensives du 15e siècle en Bourbonnais, adoptant un plan rectangulaire, coiffées de hauts combles et flanquées d'une tourelle d'escalier demi hors-oeuvre desservant deux salles par étage. L'édifice affirme son caractère résidentiel par la présence de baies servant à éclairer des salles dotées de cheminées en pierre à manteau mouluré.
