Some fifteen kilometres south of Caen, on the edge of the Cinglais area, the château of Fresney-le-Puceux stands with its long 16th-century main building set around a trapezoidal courtyard lined with dry moats. Built in the 1580s for the Harcourt family, it fell into decline during the 19th and 20th centuries before undergoing restoration work that began in 1982. Visitors can see the entrance pavilion and the one surviving corner pavilion, the other having disappeared through neglect.
