What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le château garde les traces d'un édifice qui aurait été édifié à la fin du Moyen Age. Toutefois, l'aspect actuel est dû à une reconstruction au début du 17e siècle. L'édifice est représentatif d'un type charentais de châteaux à crénelage ornemental et semble calqué sur Château-Chesnel près de Cognac. Des réaménagements eurent lieu au 18e siècle, comme le grand salon à gypseries. Au 19e siècle, la façade sud sur cour fut dotée de moulurations néo-gothiques au-dessus des ouvertures. Des restes de moulurations gothiques, modifiées par la suite, se distinguent dans les baies de la façade nord et évoquent l'art de la fin du 15e ou du début du 16e siècle.
