What the French Ministry of Culture records

Bonnivet a été le modèle de l'abbaye de Thélème, le projet le plus ambitieux de la première Renaissance française avant Chambord. Guillaume Gouffier, favori de François Ier, fait construire en 1515 un château comportant une façade à deux tours d'angle. Resté inachevé à sa mort, le château subit d'importants travaux entre 1649 et 1672. A partir de 1788, le château est vendu par lots. Les éléments encore en place correspondent au mur de clôture nord de la cour d'honneur, datant de 1660. A une centaine de mètres de la plate-forme du château, un bâtiment construit au 19e siècle a réutilisé des éléments du château.
