Château du Fou stands in Vouneuil-sur-Vienne (Vienne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: second half of the 15th century, 17th century, 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Built between 1460 and 1470 for Yves du Fou, chamberlain to Louis XI, this castle in the Vienne valley keeps its quadrangular plan around a courtyard, its moats and the two towers flanking its entrance gate. The terraced gardens, typical of the 16th century, still show a network of canals, basins and fountains once used to stage water. Bombed in August 1944, the building lost part of its south and north wings but retains its main house, outbuildings and farm.
This place also features in The castles of Louis XI
