Built from the 11th century onward by the barons of Angles, it later passed to the bishops of Poitiers, who carried out major alterations in the 15th century before abandoning it. Visitors today find a Romanesque keep with buttresses, several towers and the remains of lordly residences, remnants of a stronghold that once guarded the border of Poitou.
