What the French Ministry of Culture records
Château construit au 14e siècle à l'emplacement d'une forteresse plus ancienne, puis agrandi au cours des deux siècles suivants. Les façades sont flanquées de tours d'angle garnies de mâchicoulis. A son angle nord-est, le château est accompagné d'un donjon rectangulaire avec mâchicoulis et dont l'étage supérieur a été modifié au 18e siècle, au moment de la réfection de la façade nord et des percements. Au sud-est, un châtelet aux angles accostés de tourelles en encorbellement est relié au château par une galerie supportée par deux arcades. A l'est subsiste une tour polygonale qui appartenait aux moyens de défense. Des souterrains de défense, très étroits, décrivent des lacets dans le rocher, interrompus de place en place par d'épaisses portes. Vers le fond, des chambres de retrait étaient approvisionnées d'eau par une fontaine.
