Site castral de Montbazon stands in Montbazon (Indre-et-Loire), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: Middle Ages). Adult admission costs 14 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
At Montbazon, a rocky spur overlooking the Indre valley carries the remains of one of the earliest great stone keeps built in the region, attributed to Foulques Nerra around the turn of the 10th and 11th centuries. The 28-metre-high tower still stands over the site, together with traces of surrounding walls and a later château that no longer exists. Visitors come here to grasp the scale of the fortifications that once controlled the border between Anjou and Blois, in a setting with wide views over the valley.

What to know
- The site is freely accessible and has been open to the public since 2003.
- Only the keep and remains of the surrounding walls survive, the Renaissance château having been destroyed.
- The ground sits on a rocky spur, so visitors should expect some uneven, sloping terrain.
- Erosion affects the edge of the promontory, so caution is advised on site.
