Set on a hillside overlooking the Indre river at Veigné, the château de Couzières combines remnants of a 16th-century residence with a rebuilding commissioned by Hercule de Rohan-Montbazon in the early 17th century. Its main draw is political history: in September 1619, Marie de Médicis and her son Louis XIII met here in an attempt at reconciliation, brokered by the future Cardinal Richelieu. The main courtyard still holds a basin bearing the arms of François I, Claude de France and Louise de Savoie, along with a grotto fountain added in the late 17th century.
