What the French Ministry of Culture records

A son retour d'Italie, Charles VIII entreprit la reconstruction du château primitif. Dominant la ville, l'édifice présente un plan en triangle. Le Logis du Roi, bâti sous Charles VIII, de style gothique, occupe le front de Loire. Du côté opposé se dresse l'aile Louis XII de style Renaissance. Chacune des ailes est flanquée d'une grosse tour. Louis XII, François Ier, Léonard de Vinci et Charles Quint y séjournèrent. Aux 17e et 19e siècle, le lieu fut utilisé comme prison. La chapelle Saint-Hubert, du 15e siècle, contiendrait la dépouille de Léonard de Vinci.

Direct access to the ticket office by lift from the private entrance and the terraces. Wheelchair available. Adapted toilets in the Orangerie, accessed by lift from the cour de Pansage.
