At the heart of the town of Blois, this royal castle brings together four centuries of French architecture, from medieval to classical, around a single courtyard. The favourite residence of kings during the Renaissance, it was the birthplace of Louis XII and the place where Anne of Brittany died, as well as the scene of the 1534 Affair of the Placards. Highlights include the Louis XII wing, the spiral staircase of the François I wing, and the royal apartments restored in the 19th century by Félix Duban, with their painted decoration.
