Château de Langeais stands in Langeais (Indre-et-Loire), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. In Langeais, in the Indre-et-Loire department, stands a château commissioned by Louis XI in 1465 on a rocky spur above the Loire. The building combines the defensive appearance of a fortress with the openings typical of the early Renaissance, and at its base still lie the remains of a 10th century keep attributed to Foulques Nerra. Within its walls, in 1491, the marriage of Charles VIII and Anne of Brittany was celebrated, an alliance that led to the union of Brittany with the French crown. Furnished and maintained since the late 19th century, the château can be visited on a single level.
