Château de Cinq-Mars stands in Cinq-Mars-la-Pile (Indre-et-Loire), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century, 13th century, 15th century, 16th century). Adult admission costs 5 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Perched on a rocky spur above the valley, the ruins of the Château de Cinq-Mars recall a fortress torn down on Richelieu's orders after the execution of its owner, the Marquis de Cinq-Mars, in 1642. Two round towers remain, one dating from the late 12th century and the other from the 13th, surrounded by moats rebuilt in the 16th century and crossed by a three-arched bridge. The site, which inspired a novel by Alfred de Vigny, can be visited for its keep remains, its garden and the view the spur offers over the village and the neighbouring church.
What to know
- A visit takes about half an hour, since the site consists mainly of outdoor ruins.

- The ground, partly set on a rocky spur, involves uneven paths and some slopes.
