What the French Ministry of Culture records

Ce château était, aux 13e et 14e siècles, une forteresse dont les ruines furent utilisées, au 16e siècle, pour sa reconstruction en 1520. Gabrielle d'Estrées et Henri IV y furent reçu en 1598. Le duc de Choiseul fit démolir en partie le château et utilisa les matériaux à Chanteloup. Vendu comme bien national à un commerçant de Morlaix, les ruines et le domaine furent acquis sous la Restauration par le Baron Angellier qui fit reconstruire le château. L'édifice comprend un bâtiment principal, construit entièrement sous la Restauration. En retour d'équerre vers le nord, une aile est constituée par trois bâtiments contigus ayant appartenu au château du 16e siècle. A l'ouest du château subsistent les communs de la fin du 16e siècle ou du début du 17e. Ils comprennent deux ailes perpendiculaires. A l'est, au-delà d'un pont franchissant les douves, une porte monumentale ouverte dans une colonnade et surmontée d'un édicule amorti par un fronton, donne accès au parc. A l'ouest de la terrasse, creusée dans le rocher, se trouve l'ancienne chapelle du 16e siècle. Interventions attestées de l'architecte paysagiste Edouard André et de son fils René-Edouard André.
