What the French Ministry of Culture records

Ancienne châtellenie relevant de l'Ile-Bouchard. Le château d'époque féodale, a subi des modifications à la fin du 16e et au 18e siècle. Du château primitif restent une tour cylindrique, vestige de l'ancienne enceinte ; la base d'une autre tour incorporée dans le château actuel ; une partie des douves. Honoré de Balzac était reçu à Saché par les Margonne, amis de ses parents. Il y séjourna pendant sa jeunesse, puis chaque année de 1829 à 1838 pour des séjours de plusieurs semaines. Il y écrivit entre autre "Le Lys dans la vallée", "Eugénie Grandet", "Le Père Goriot", "La cousine Bette", "Louis Lambert" et "La recherche de l'Absolu". La salle à manger, aménagée en 1802, est ornée de papiers peints et de boiseries de style Directoire. La chambre de Balzac est tendue de papier, et possède un trumeau de boiseries Louis XVI ainsi qu'une cheminée de marbre noir du 19e siècle.
