To make a day of it

Château de Fougeret stands in Queaux (Vienne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: limite 15th century 16th century, fourth quarter of the 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Set atop a thirty-eight-metre cliff above the Vienne river, the Château de Fougeret combines a fifteenth-century feudal origin with a neo-gothic, troubadour-style makeover carried out by its nineteenth-century owners. Inside, visitors find a dense array of decoration for a building of this size: wall paintings, painted flat-vaulted ceilings, a mosaic, woodwork and a stone staircase with an ornate balustrade. A ten-hectare park running along the river, planted with species brought from America, rounds out the visit.
