Dissay castle, in the Vienne department, was built at the end of the 15th century by Pierre d'Amboise, bishop of Poitiers, who made it his residence and that of his successors until the Revolution. Surrounded by moats that survive with their bridges, the building combines late Gothic architecture with 18th-century additions, including a gallery added to the north front. Inside, visitors can see a vaulted oratory decorated with 15th-century wall paintings, along with old stained glass windows salvaged from the vanished collegiate church.
